📝 Our to-do list
Yours, not Canvas's — every to-do for this student in one place, wherever you wrote it: on an assignment, a module, a class, or on nothing at all. Adding one here attaches it to nothing, which is right for a permission slip or supplies.
All work
Submitted work and feedback
Everything Canvas has a submission record for, newest first: when it went in, what it scored, what the teacher wrote, the rubric breakdown, and the files he attached. Each one links back to the module it belongs to.
Classes
Announcements
Recent course announcements, newest first.
Messages from teachers
The Canvas inbox — what teachers have sent, newest first.
What Canvas has been doing
The activity stream. This is the only feed that reports a grading event as an event, so it is where "this was marked" shows up first.

Local copies of the course documents
Saves every file, page and assignment in the modules to this machine, under
site\RyanDashboard\files\, in a folder per class and per module —
so the links elsewhere on this dashboard open the copy instead of sending you back to Canvas
to log in. Anything Canvas can't hand over (quizzes, discussions, outside links) is written to
a links.txt in the same folder. Work he has submitted is saved too, under
_My submitted work.
Runs in small batches so the rest of the server keeps answering while it works — leave the tab open until it says it's finished.
What's on disk
Every saved document, by class and module.
What's new
What moved in Canvas since you last looked — new assignments, changed due dates, grades, teacher messages. This list accumulates: refreshing twice without reading it does not lose anything, and nothing leaves until you mark it seen.
What they say they have done
When your child ticks something off it lands here rather than going straight to done. Agreeing marks it done exactly as if you had ticked it yourself; sending it back simply unticks the box, so they can finish the work and claim it again. Nothing is recorded against them either way.
How this district has Canvas set up
Counted from the last refresh, not assumed. These four settings are why several obvious-sounding panels can't exist on this dashboard.
Available, but nothing is using it
Canvas answers these for Ryan's token, but the district either switched the feature off or simply never puts anything in it. Listed so an empty section on this dashboard is never mistaken for an empty school week.
Everything this token can reach
The full capability survey — every endpoint family worth building on, with what each would let this dashboard show. Permissions are a district setting that can change without notice, so the answer is measured rather than remembered. Read-only, and it runs in batches so the server keeps answering while it works.

Students and tokens
Canvas access tokens expire about every 90 days. Paste a new one here and it is checked against Canvas before anything is saved, so a bad paste can never replace a working token. Changes take effect on the next request — no restart.
Your children’s own logins
A child who signs in here sees only their own work — their courses, their notes, their to-dos — and nothing of a sibling’s. They cannot open Settings, cannot see a token, and cannot pull grades.
They sign in with their own email address — the one you type here. You create the login and you are the password reset: there is no “forgot my password” mail, because a child does not read one.
Changing the password signs them out everywhere. Turning a login off stops the sign-in and keeps everything they have written — nothing is deleted. To change only the address, or only the password, fill in just that box and save.
Your notes and to-dos
Everything on this dashboard except your notes, completion marks and to-dos can be re-pulled from Canvas. Those three cannot — Canvas has never heard of them. They are backed up automatically, and this is the door out of the database.
Official grades sign-in
Grades come from the district’s Parent Self Serve, not from Canvas — Canvas is set to hide them. This sign-in is checked before it is saved, is encrypted on disk, and is used only when you press Refresh grades. Nothing runs on a schedule and nothing runs in the background.
Worth knowing what it reaches: unlike a Canvas token this password cannot be revoked, only changed, and the same login also opens Update Contact Info and Online Registration for your children. Forgetting it here deletes this dashboard’s copy — it does not change the password.
